Football Insider understands Liverpool are ready to offer Divock Origi a contract extension beyond the summer of 2020.

The Belgian forward was set to leave this summer after failing to impress during the past two seasons. However, he has turned into a completely different player this term, making 15 appearances and moving ahead of Xherdan Shaqiri and Daniel Sturridge in the pecking order.

Origi played in the past 9 consecutive games, 2 of which he started. It was not too long ago that an offer worth £22m was offered by Wolves for the striker’s services.

He instead chose to stay and spent the previous season on loan with VfL Wolfsburg, scoring 6 times in 31 Bundesliga games.

Now, he has managed to change Jurgen Klopp’s mind about potentially selling him for a better prospect in the upcoming window. Even though Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane are firmly planted in the starting XI, Origi can get a stronghold on the second string role.

It is still unclear whether the player himself wants to commit his long-term future with the Anfield side. If he wanted to leave, the Reds might be forced to cash in on him after this campaign.
