Gary Neville has handed Liverpool a 50-50 chance of going past Barcelona in the Semi-finals of the Champions League, should they manage to get past FC Porto on Wednesday evening.

The Englishman said, “When you get into the semi-final you’re definitely good enough to win the competition.

“But that first five minutes against Manchester United – they’re likely to play Liverpool in the semi-final and Liverpool are a lot better than United and won’t let them off the hook like that.

“Liverpool’s front three will cause massive problems so I think it’s a 50-50 tie that semi-final. I wouldn’t say it’s Barcelona as favourites by any stretch of the imagination.

“Liverpool are a good side and have a lot more energy than this Barcelona team. They don’t have as much control or rhythm in midfield but I think certainly they can match them defensively and up top.”

Speaking on Liverpool’s Premier League hopes, Neville added, “Sunday away to Everton is the most winnable of the games. If they beat city but lose to Chelsea, they are still in and around the top four.

“If they lose to City but beat Chelsea, they are in the top four. So if they were to win against Everton on Sunday, the game to change players around a bit would be the City game.”

Neville added, “That’s not them going into the city game thinking United can lose the game, they have to win. But with four games in ten days, you can’t play the same eleven players.

“My view would be that if they beat Everton on Sunday then make two or three changes against City, whilst still trying to get the result.”
