Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has insisted Liverpool supporters don’t need to feel nervous about the title race.

Liverpool have been dealt a massive blow to their title challenge as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Leicester City. Sadio Mane found the net pretty quickly as the Reds took a very early lead.

But a defending lapse saw them losing the advantage as Harry Maguire popped in the equaliser just before the break. The result did slight favour to Manchester City who lost to Newcastle United.

Liverpool still hold the leverage in the title race but City will try to close the gap in the remaining matches.

Van Dijk said, “I don’t think so, but obviously you get that feeling as well [of nervousness] from the crowd and I think it’s not really necessary at the moment.

“But obviously everyone wants to win so bad and that’s what we want as well, but sometimes you need to be very patient.

“In the end it’s all about showing on the pitch and we’re not going to be affected by that. We want everyone to cheer us on and keep pushing, even if we have tough moments, even if we’re 1-0 down or maybe more.

“We just need everyone to pull in the same direction and keep going. That’s the only way forward.”
