According to reports from the Liverpool Echo, Liverpool is not interested in signing Lille’s Nicolas Pepe. Pepe has now become one of the biggest stars in Ligue 1 courtesy of his performances with Lille this season. The 23-year old winger scored 23 goals and provided 12 assists in 43 appearances across all competitions as Lille ended the Ligue 1 as runners-up and secured a place in the Champions League group stages for the first time in 6 years.
Pepe’s performances for Lille in the 18/19 season attrracted a lot of attention from several top clubs including Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United. First, Arsenal were strongly linked to signing Pepe before reports emerged that Liverpool also joined the race. With Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane both linked to a move to Real Madrid, Liverpool were interested in signing Pepe as a replacement.
However, now it seems that Liverpool have folded their cards and are not keen on signing the Ivorian winger. Perhaps its because Salah and Mane are staying. With Liverpool out of the race to sign Pepe, Arsenal have a good chance of roping him in. That is, if they have the money to sign him.
