Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing PSV Eindhoven winger, Steven Bergwijn.
The Dutch youngster is in the summer wishlist of plenty of European outfits including Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United, Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich.
Jurgen Klopp has a battle in front of him to prize the highly talented footballer away from all the European powerhouses. Bergwijn’s estimated price during this transfer period is £25m with a contract set to last till June 2022.
The 21-year-old attacker has struck the back of the net 11 times in 25 games this season along while also setting up 12 assists. He is a graduate of the PSV academy and also has 2 caps to his name for the Netherlands national side.
Ronald Koeman handed him his first start at international level in the 3-0 win over Germany last October.
Liverpool’s prime attacking threats, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, both have been linked with a move away to Real Madrid. Should either of two leave for the Spanish capital after this season, Klopp will be forced to look into replacements.
Bergwijn is still very young and has time to grow into the pace of the Premier League. It seems like Xherdan Shaqiri is the Reds’ only backup winger at this point.
Their own youth product, Harry Wilson is impressing on his loan spell with Derby County but it is unclear whether he will have a permanent place at Anfield next season.
Finding another backup other than Shaqiri is essential to continue Liverpool’s challenge for the league title and other major honours in the upcoming season.
