Reports originating from Spain has made claims of Liverpool being seriously interested in Marco Asensio.

The Real Madrid midfielder is out of sorts at the Santiago Bernabeu, having been at the club for 5 years now. He is nowhere close to being a starting figure for the Galacticos and with the addition of Eden Hazard, his name is expected to drop further down the pecking order.

Asensio was included in 32 games in Real’s La Liga campaign in 2018/19, out of which he started in only 19. The midfielder has not been able to stake out a defined position for himself in the Los Blancos senior side and with the latest signings it is not expected to get easier for him.

This is where Liverpool comes in, the newly crowned European champions who are also plotting squad improvements through a couple of big names. The latest reports claim that they will ‘insist’ on buying Asensio out of Real’s hands and Florentino Perez might be forced to comply.

The Galactico president is not too keen on selling the 23-year-old but the series of new faces coming into the home base could force him to reconsider. FIFA’s rule book on Financial Fairplay states that any club will have to show balanced records at the end of a season to be fit to play in all tournaments.

Manchester City have just been hit with a fine for violating the regulations which could possibly see them miss out on Champions League football next season.

Asensio is still very young and can fetch a large sum in the current market. Liverpool now have a fair shot of landing the attacking midfielder.
