Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has said that out of Liverpool and Manchester City, he would prefer to see City winning the Premier League.

While many would believe that Rooney said this out of his love for Manchester United, it isn’t the case. This is in fact, the Evertonian within Rooney that wants Manchester City to win the league.

Rooney began his career at Everton and spent the last of his playing days at the club either. The striker played 111 matches for The Toffees, scoring 26 goals.

The Manchester United and England all-time top scorer said, “It’s a great reason to be out the country when those two are going head to head for the title! I hope Man City get over the line before Liverpool. I couldn’t bear to see them win it, it would be a nightmare for any Evertonian. I remember in 2005 they won the Champions League and they’re still talking about it now so it would be another 10 or 15 years of that if they win the title!”

Liverpool resume their Premier League campaign next Sunday when they take on Spurs at Anfield.
