Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola feels that Mohamed Salah should replicate last season’s form consistently if he is to be considered among the best players in the world.

Mohamed Salah was brilliant last season, scoring 44 goals in 52 maatches across all competitions. He won the Premier League Golden Boot and was also the Premier League Player of the Season. His performances helped Liverpool reach their first Champions League final since 2007.

Salah’s performances last season saw him being among the top three in FIFA’s ‘Best Player of the Year’ award. There is a good chance that the Egyptian can be shortlisted for the Ballon d’Or.

However, this season, the Egyptian forward hasn’t been that lethal so far. In 8 matches, Salah has netted only three times.

Pep Guardiola thinks that Salah must repeat last season’s form consistently if he is to be among the best players in the world.

Guardiola said,”He (Salah) is younger and it was his first year back in England since his time at Chelsea, so we will see in the future. But a guy who has the quality to score 50 goals in a season always has that quality. But football is all about ups and downs.

Salah remains an excellent player and will score goals in the future. When you are in there scenting goals sometimes this happens.

Sergio has scored a lot of goals but there were periods when he didn’t score goals. How many years has Sergio scored all those goals, eight or nine years? For Salah it was the first one so we will see in seven or eight years.”

Liverpool take on Manchester City today at Anfield. Whoever wins the match, will occupy top spot in the Premier League table.
