According to the Mirror, Liverpool have been handed a massive boost in their chase for La Liga striker, Maxi Gomez.

The 22-year-old forward has been recommended to the Reds by their former player, Luis Suarez who also happens to be his compatriot. Gomez has recently drawn serious links with the Anfield outfit.

His current contract is set to last till the summer of 2022 with a release clause worth £42m. However, his parent club, Celta Vigo are in real danger of going down to the Spanish second division.

If they do get relegated, Gomez’s asking price might be brought down to as low as £22m. That should be enough to convince Jurgen Klopp about his future scouting plans.

Since selling off Dominik Solanke to AFC Bournemouth, Liverpool are in need of a backup striker behind Roberto Firmino who has started to play in a more deeper role recently.

Divock Origi has impressed in the limited time he has played this season but is also about to enter the final season of his Liverpool contract. If he is sold off in the summer to prevent the loss of a free transfer, Klopp might need to add more depth to his offensive lineup.

Gomez is coveted by one of the world’s best strikers and is also making a name for himself in the La Liga.

He has scored 9 goals and furthered 5 assists in 24 appearances this season. He racked up 18 goals last term and is being sought out by rival outfit, Manchester United as well.
