Liverpool midfielder Gini Wijnaldum has revealed that he is yet to receive a new contract offer from Liverpool. The Dutch international has been one of the mainstays in the midfield for the Reds this season and has played a major role in their pursuit of glory in the Premier League as well as the Champions League. However, he is yet to receive a contract extension from the Merseyside club with just two more years left on his contract.

Speaking to Liverpool Echo, the player explained his contract situation at the club. Wijnaldum said, “I did not speak with the club yet.”

He added, “That is something for the club. I will see what happens. I signed a five-year contract and I am still under contract. I just do my job to perform. A new contract has to come from the club.”

Speaking about Liverpool’s famous win against Bayern Munich in the last match in the Champions League, he said, “It felt great because a lot of teams struggle to come and get a good result at Bayern. We had confidence we could do it. After the first game people were asking: ‘Is this a good result for the second leg?'”

He added, “We were confident because we did not concede at home and we know the way we play football we can create chances and score goals. We felt what it is to play in a final last season and the journey was great. We want it again. At a club like Liverpool you have to win everything possible and you have to play for both – the Premier League and the Champions League.”

The midfield ace concluded, “It suits Liverpool to play for both. Look at Manchester City, they are not only going for the title or the Champions League. It’s a big club – so is Liverpool – so you go for both.”
