Dejan Lovren is inching closer to an exit from Anfield as his agent has reportedly held talks with AC Milan over a transfer

After helping Croatia reach the World Cup final, an injury put Dejan Lovren out of action for the first 5-6 weeks of the 2018/19 season. However, Lovren found regular game time after recovering but fate had other things in plan.

The centre-back injured himself during Liverpool’s FA Cup match against Wolves in January and missed another two months. By then, Joel Matip became a regular and forged a valuable partnership with Virgil van Dijk at the heart of the defence. Lovren managed to start in Liverpool’s Premier League matches against Huddersfield Town and Newcastle United and a Champions League match against Porto.

The Croat ended the 2018/19 season with 18 appearances across all competitions. He scored a goal against Newcastle United while providing an assist against Arsenal.

With the presence of Joel Matip and Joe Gomez, it will become very difficult for Lovren to be a regular under Jurgen Klopp next season.

Lovren who is valued at £25 million by Liverpool has attracted interest from AC Milan and it seems like he is on the brink of joining the Rossoneri.

According to Calciomercato, Lovren’s agent Vlado Lemic met Milan officials regarding a possible transfer. Milan News also posted a video of Lemic visiting Casa Milan.

Lovren started Livrepool’s pre-season friendly against Bradford City before being substituted along with the other starters except Simon Mignolet at half-time.

There is no denying that Lovren who has made 170 appearances for Liverpool since his £20 million transfer from Southampton, is a good centre-back. However, with Joel Matip’s brilliant performances last season along with the presence of Joe Gomez, Lovren could not find much playing time for the Reds in the upcoming season. Hence, a move to AC Milan might do good for the 30-year old.
