Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai has been praised for his relentless pressing, but head coach Arne Slot has made it clear that he expects more goals from the Hungarian international.
Liverpool Boss Arne Slot: Szoboszlai Must Score More Goals Despite Pressing Excellence
As Liverpool prepares for their Champions League clash against AC Milan at the San Siro, Slot highlighted Szoboszlai’s work ethic and impact without the ball but emphasized the need for more contributions in front of goal.
Szoboszlai, who joined the Reds from RB Leipzig for £60 million in the summer of 2023, made a solid impression in his debut season, notching seven goals in 45 appearances.
However, only three of those goals came in the Premier League, and Slot believes those numbers need to rise, especially for a player in such an advanced role.
Slot, who has handed Szoboszlai four consecutive starts this season, commended the midfielder’s energy and intelligence in pressing opponents.
“He’s been outstanding in his pressing game,” said Slot.
“But for an attacking midfielder at Liverpool, his numbers need to go up.”
Despite the goal-scoring challenge, Slot expressed confidence in Szoboszlai’s ability to improve his output, noting the talent around him and his own qualities.
“He has the quality, and with the team we have, I’m 100% sure he’ll score more,” the coach said.
Szoboszlai, already a key figure under Slot, has contributed two assists in the new season, but with Liverpool pushing on multiple fronts, his ability to find the back of the net more often will be crucial.
All eyes will be on him as the Reds take on AC Milan in San Siro.
