Arne Slot has made it clear that Liverpool still have a lot to prove before being considered serious contenders for the Premier League title, despite their strong start to the season.
Arne Slot: Liverpool Must Still Prove Their Title Credentials
Slot, who has overseen six wins in his first seven matches, remains cautious about declaring his side ready to challenge the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal for the crown.
Speaking ahead of their clash with Wolves, Slot acknowledged that Liverpool’s early success has come against relatively favorable opposition, and tougher tests await.
“We’ve done well, but the real challenge comes after the international break with matches against teams like Chelsea, Arsenal, and Aston Villa,” he noted.
Slot also pointed out that the quality in the Premier League is undeniable, with every team fielding players worth £40m-£50m. “There are no easy games here,” he said, emphasizing the importance of consistency across the season.
The Dutchman downplayed the idea that Liverpool should be seen as front-runners, especially given the recent dominance of Manchester City.
Slot is focused on closing the gap, explaining, “City took 31 points more than us in the last two seasons. We’re working hard to bridge that gap, but it’s a step-by-step process.”
Slot, who expects Alisson to return from injury for the Wolves game, insisted that his team isn’t bothered by being overlooked in the title conversation.
“I don’t mind if we’re underestimated. We know our job is to get closer to the top, and that’s what we’re focused on.”
For Slot, it’s clear: Liverpool need to keep proving themselves.
