Brazilian legend Cafu had heaped praise on Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold and he gets a response back.

‘I think he has what it takes to become a Ballon d’Or winner. We have to change this paradigm where the Ballon d’Or is only won by attackers and strikers.

‘He has got big potential. I can see lots of similarities between him and me when I was playing. I would say he’s got a Brazilian instinct in the way he plays.’

Trent Alexander-Arnold was ecstatic over Cafu’s praise.

He said: ‘It’s massive praise from a legend of the game it’s obviously something I’m thankful for and I have to thank him for those words.

‘I try and be the best player I can be. It’s a team game so it’s about the players I have around me, the players in training, the manager and the support all around me that enables me to be as good as I can be.

‘The focus for me is taking it one game at a time, accolades may come later on but it doesn’t faze me as much as it does other players maybe. But for me especially it’s about winning the team trophies.’

The Liverpool boss Klopp also chimed in with a response.

He added: ‘Cafu obviously thinks a right-back should win it! I couldn’t admire Trent more.’

‘It’s a very positive message from Cafu but can only cause problems if it’s ‘Klopp says this, Klopp says that’.

‘He has big potential, but if Trent can win Ballon d’Or, I have no idea.’
