Liverpool striker Cody Gakpo is one of five Dutch players who have left the international training camp due to the virus

The Reds star joins Sven Botmann, Matthijs de Ligt, Joey Biermann and Bert Verbruggen on the flight home, all five of whom contract the virus while on international duty.

KNVB has confirmed that Ronald Koeman has called in his Ryan Gravenberch, Kjell Scherpen and Stefan de Vrij to replace him.

The Netherlands will face runners-up France in the first Euro 2024 qualifier at the Stade de France on Thursday night. This match saw Kylian Mbappe captain his Blues for the first time.

They face promises on paper of what would be the toughest Euro 2024 qualifiers without the 2022 World Cup’s top scorer. Gakpo has scored three of his six international goals so far during the tournament in Qatar and has scored in all three of his country’s group games. The striker joined Liverpool in January for £35.4m and quickly became Jurgen Klopp’s starting player.

Gakpo, who has failed to score in his first five games for the Reds, has settled at Anfield in recent weeks, where he scored four goals in March and February.
