CORONAVIRUS: Liverpool Captain Arranging Covid Fund For NHS Staff

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has called upon Premier League captains to come forward and help donate towards a fund he is setting up for NHS frontline staff.

Premier League players have been facing a lot of backlash over not contributing towards this crisis by not having pay cuts. Matt Hancock, the Health Secretary, had lashed out at the Premier League on Thursday.

However, the Premier League board had been in discussion with Professional Footballers’ Association to enforce a 30% pay cut for teams, before Hancock called them out. Hancock in return received criticism for not having full knowledge of the situation before pointing fingers at the Premier League.

Along with Henderson, Everton’s Seamus Coleman is also playing his part and involved in this. Henderson has contacted other team captains over this fund and has taken the lead role in getting involved. He has so far got in touch with 19 other clubs to discuss their financial situation and discuss further.

According to the Guardian, the Liverpool captain’s main idea is to involve Premier League players (who are known to have high salaries) and urge them to contribute to a fund that shall be donated for NHS workers – especially those who are heavily involved. The NHS and the government are being consulted on how to carry this forward and advice for a fair distribution of this fund.

However, Henderson isn’t too pleased about the public getting to know about his fund before it was fully formed. He would have liked to set it up properly before releasing it in the news, although we have no doubt that this will materialise into something big soon.
