Dirk Kuyt convinced Lutsharel Geertruida will be Arne Slot’s first signing for Liverpool

Former Liverpool winger Dirk Kuyt firmly believes that Feyenoord defender Lutsharel Geertruida will be the first signing of the Arne Slot era at Anfield.

With Liverpool’s new sporting director Richard Hughes hinting at defensive reinforcements, Kuyt is confident that Geertruida is the player to watch.

Geertruida, known for his versatility, can play both as a right-back and a center-half, making him an ideal addition to Liverpool’s squad. The 23-year-old has spent his entire career in Rotterdam, progressing through various youth teams before joining Feyenoord from Sparta Rotterdam in 2012.

His impressive performances have not gone unnoticed, especially by his former manager Slot.

Kuyt, who has closely followed Geertruida’s career, shared his thoughts with Ladbrokes 1-2-Free:

“Liverpool could benefit from strengthening their defense and midfield. If few players leave this summer, I don’t think Arne Slot will make drastic changes. However, Lutsharel Geertruida is one player I believe could make the leap to the Premier League.”

Geertruida’s attributes—stamina, ball control, and physical strength—make him a perfect fit for English football. Kuyt added,

“I would love to see Lutsharel in the Premier League, especially in a Liverpool shirt. He has the potential to excel at this level.”

With Virgil van Dijk’s contract nearing its end and Joel Matip’s departure, Geertruida’s arrival could bolster Liverpool’s defense under Slot’s guidance.

Currently representing the Netherlands at Euro 2024, Geertruida might soon find himself playing alongside some of his future Liverpool teammates.

As Kuyt suggests, this move could be a significant step in Liverpool’s new era under Arne Slot.
