Dominik Szoboszlai adds humorous twist to Pre-Match banter with Pep Guardiola
Feelings have risen on social media ahead of Saturday’s highly anticipated encounter between Manchester City and Liverpool, with Dominik Szoboszlai taking a dig at City manager Pep Guardiola.
The Hungarian star, who joined Liverpool from RB Leipzig in the summer, took to Instagram to comment to Guardiola’s pre-match press conference.
Guardiola was asked about the main risks posed by Liverpool during the news conference, and his responses raised eyebrows. While one name was anticipated, the presence of two other players caused debate.
“Salah of course, but now with Szoboszlai and Gravenberch,” was his reply. But it wasn’t the inclusion of the two midfielders that prompted ridicule, but more so the manner of his pronunciation, with the 23-year-old called ‘Szvolazi‘ by the 52-year-old.
Szoboszlai, who is known for his creativity on the field, answered on Instagram with an assortment of laughing emojis, adding a lighter touch to the pre-game banter.
“Salah who and who?” wrote @KM_243_,
while @Beetlep95923146 warned: “Szoboszlai is gonna make sure he remembers his name tomorrow.”
@AndrasGrain joked “This is not cool, even if you are the great Pop Gardilo!”
Guardiola’s mention of Szoboszlai’s Dutch teammate included a witty twist, referring to him as “Gravenerd.” Football fans quickly picked up on the savvy comment, causing discussion and laughter on social media.
With only one point separating the top two teams in the Premier League, Szoboszlai’s light-hearted jibe adds a another aspect of intrigue to an already fierce rivalry.
With both players having had outstanding seasons, the social media banter just adds to the excitement of what promises to be an exciting match at the Etihad.
