Darwin Nunez’s frustrations may be mounting under Liverpool’s new manager Arne Slot, according to ESPN pundit Steve Nicol.

With the Reds kicking off their Premier League campaign with a 2-0 victory against Ipswich Town, the Uruguayan striker was notably absent from the action, which has sparked concerns about his role in the squad.

Darwin Nunez’s Growing Frustration Under Arne Slot, Says ESPN Pundit Steve Nicol

Slot’s decision to start the trio of Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz, and Diogo Jota paid off, with both Salah and Jota finding the back of the net.

However, Nunez, who has been linked with a move away from Anfield this summer, was left watching from the sidelines, a scenario Nicol believes could lead to dissatisfaction.

Speaking on ESPN, Nicol highlighted the potential consequences of Nunez’s limited playing time.

“If you’re Darwin Nunez, you’re starting to wonder when your chance will come,” Nicol remarked.

“With Jota scoring and the front three performing well, it’s hard to see how Nunez breaks into the starting lineup.”

Nicol also pointed out that this situation isn’t new for Nunez, who struggled to cement his place in the team last season.

“It feels like a continuation from last year. He was on the fringes then, and now it’s beginning to look the same,” Nicol added.

While Nunez’s raw talent is undeniable, his inconsistency in front of goal has often been his downfall.

Slot’s preference for the more clinical Jota in the central role, combined with Diaz’s stronghold on the left wing, leaves Núñez in a challenging position.

As the season progresses, Nunez will need to make the most of his opportunities to prove his worth and convince Slot that he deserves a more prominent role.

Until then, the Uruguayan striker might find himself growing increasingly uneasy on the bench.
