Former English footballer, Danny Mills thinks that one of Jurgen Klopp’s favourite Liverpool players could head for the Anfield exit door after this season.
The Reds are due to play Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League final next month and the manager will be picking from the best of his fit bunch. Having wrapped up the Premier League season in second place, a number of squad players are expected to leave this summer.
Daniel Sturridge, who is well below Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino in the pecking order is predicted to be in is last days as a Liverpool player. The Englishman’s career has been wrecked by injuries and he quite clearly is no longer the same player that he once was.
His strike against Chelsea back in October only was a nostalgic hit of what the 29-year-old is truly capable of. But with his fitness history, he can be hardly be trusted with a major role in the Reds lineup.
“His days are numbered,” Mills said. “He has been an exceptional player for Liverpool, particularly when [Luis] Suarez was there.
“Realistically, can he get in the side going forward and replace Mohammed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane? No, he can’t. Liverpool need more competition for the front three, someone who can come in when they are unavailable or need a rest.
“Sturridge is no longer that player. He has lot that zip, probably due to all the injuries, and is not the player he was.”
Sturridge is also in the final months of his contract and he has not been offered a new one by Liverpool.
