Liverpool midfielder Fabinho believes he has overcome the initial difficulties since his arrival at Anfield and has settled himself into Jurgen Klopp’s setup.

Despite splashing £43.7m for The Brazilian Klopp didn’t use him from the start as he felt the player would need time to adjust to his gegenpressing tactics. The midfield department is already congested and with players like Georginio Wijnaldum, Naby Keita and Jordan Henderson vying for a place Fabinho had to wait for a bit for his chances.

The former Monaco midfielder looked in complete control of the midfield in Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Manchester United and with this performance he perhaps has cemented his place in the starting lineup.

Fabinho insists he had to struggle for getting it right on the pitch but now he has a complete understanding of the style of play. “The intensity is different from what I am used to [but] I’ve got into the rhythm of the team and got used to the style of play.

“The role that the manager asks of me is what I’m used to, so there were no problems in adapting in that respect.

“Obviously in the first games I didn’t have that automatic understanding with the rest of the team, so I had to work a bit harder to understand other players’ runs, but I can do this faster now.”
