Fabinho insists he had the patience to wait for his turn and is very happy to help the team so far.

The Brazilian midfielder arrived in the summer for a reported fee of £40m but was struggling to nail down a place in the first team setup. With Georginio Wijnaldum being used in the holding midfield role Fabinho’s chances of making it to the first team looked very slim.

But following a number of injury issues, his chances eventually came in October and since then he has been a pivotal part of the title challengers. His inclusion in the midfield has given a new dimension to the whole setup and Fabinho admits he is quite happy with the current proceedings.

“I am happy, I still have things to improve but I am happy overall with my performances.

“I am up to the speed of the Premier League and that was what I was looking for. I think if it was up to me I would have been playing from the beginning.

“Maybe Jurgen could see something I couldn’t see, so not just conversations with him but all the staff helped me. I had patience to wait for my opportunities.”
