Liverpool have received a timely boost in their pursuit of Bournemouth centre-back Dean Huijsen, with Fabrizio Romano offering a positive update that could accelerate the Reds’ plans to bolster their defence.
Romano: Dean Huijsen Favors Premier League Move – Liverpool in Pole Position
Speaking on his Daily Briefing, Romano confirmed that Huijsen, one of the most sought-after young defenders in Europe, is leaning towards staying in the Premier League rather than pursuing a move abroad.
This news comes as a significant encouragement for Liverpool, who view the 20-year-old Spaniard as a long-term successor to Virgil van Dijk.
“He has a release clause of £50m and he’s going to leave Bournemouth this summer,” Romano revealed.
“There’s interest from Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, but Dean Huijsen is currently leaning towards a move within the Premier League.”
Liverpool are firmly in the race, along with Chelsea, Arsenal, and Newcastle. But with Champions League qualification already secured, the Reds hold a clear advantage over most of their domestic rivals—particularly Chelsea, who remain outside the top five.
New boss Arne Slot is reportedly a big admirer of Huijsen’s game and wants the youngster to slot into the centre-back rotation alongside Van Dijk and Konate, especially with Joe Gomez’s injury concerns and growing interest in Jarell Quansah from Newcastle.
Huijsen’s recent performance in Bournemouth’s Monday night win over Fulham only underlined why he’s being tipped for a big move.
With Liverpool also chasing left-back Milos Kerkez, the club is reportedly plotting a £95m double swoop from the south coast.
Huijsen’s Premier League experience, composure, and ball-playing ability make him an ideal candidate to learn from Van Dijk before potentially taking over the reins at Anfield.
If Liverpool get this deal over the line, it could be one of the smartest pieces of business they do this summer.
