Sami Hyypia reveals what Liverpool should aim at for the rest of this season

Former Liverpool defender Sami Hyypia says that another European adventure won’t hamper Jurgen Klopp’s men chances of winning the title.

The Reds return to Champions League action this Tuesday, with a first leg of the last-16 awaiting against German giants Bayern Munich at Anfield.

There have suggestions that Klopp may prioritize the league as he aims to end the club’s 29-year wait for the domestic glory.

But, speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Hyypia said: “We were in the final of the Champions League last year and the mindset will be to go one step further.

“We made some great additions to the squad last summer and the team is looking even stronger. There’s no reason why we can’t go all the way this time around.

“Just because Liverpool are doing so well in the Premier League that doesn’t mean that the Champions League becomes less important.

“It’s going to be tough but it’s possible. You want to keep challenging for both trophies for as long as possible.

“It makes it more interesting for the supporters. This is what they want – seeing their team competing for the two biggest trophies.”

After playing Bayern, Liverpool will return to league action next Sunday against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
