Former Liverpool boss Klopp distances himself from England job

Jurgen Klopp is not interested in taking any job as he is enjoying the break.

Former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was heavily linked for the England duty after the departure of Gareth Southgate. England are searching a new manager since the Euro 2024 final. The Three Lions lost to Spain in the final and it was their second consecutive loss in Euro finals.

The German coach admits it would be “the biggest loss of face in the history of football” if he were to take the England job. The 57-year-old announced his departure at the end of the last season after winning everything at Liverpool. He is regarded one of the best football managers in English football.

Klopp has won the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, two League Cups, the FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup during his time at Anfield. Ahead of the World Cup 2026, England wanted a best man to take the charge in place of Southgate.

While appearing at the International Coaches’ Congress in Wurzburg, Germany, Klopp was asked if there were any offers on the table. He said, “At the moment, there is nothing at all in terms of jobs. No club, no country.”

“England? That would be the biggest loss of face in the history of football if I said I’ll make an exception for you.”

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe also denied any contact with the Football Association over the job and said, “Absolutely no contact whatsoever from anybody – and I’m fully committed to Newcastle.”

FA will have one month to finalise a new manager as they will now be in action for the UEFA Nations League next month. England Under-21s boss Lee Carsley, former Brighton manager Graham Potter, and former Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel are also linked to take this job.
