Dimitar Berbatov says Liverpool are nervous in this title race

Former Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur striker Dimitar Berbatov says Liverpool look nervous in this title race and may end sabotaging this by the end of this season.

The Reds blew their chance of going seven points clear at the top when they only managed to draw 1-1 against Leicester City at Anfield on Wednesday night.

Manchester City had lost to Newcastle United a night before to present Jurgen Klopp’s men with a golden opportunity.

Liverpool are still clear favourites to win this title, being five points ahead, but Berbatov, who has won two Premier League titles with Manchester United, believes a five-point gap is not enough and the race is wide open.

He told: “I was surprised to see Liverpool only getting a point against Leicester.

“But they are still strong favourites for the title – five points is a big gap; although it might seem small to a few of their players now.

“The Leicester game was the first time we have seen signs of cracks from Liverpool, but this is natural as the finishing line gets closer.

“Football players are human beings and doubts will inevitably creep in.

“Negative thoughts can start going through your mind, to the extent where you almost sabotaging yourself.

“It’s about being strong and just concentrating on your game.”

Liverpool return to league action on Monday against West Ham away at the London stadium.
