Former Red Believes Matteo Guendouzi Could Thrive At Liverpool

Matteo Gundouzi continues to be propped around in transfer rumours as Stan Collymore thinks he could make the grade at Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp is looking for reinforcements this summer following disappointing exits from cup competitions, despite their title clinch.

Squad depth and fresh legs is of the utmost importance when going after multiple trophies. That point got furthered after Liverpool’s transfer business was pretty much non-existent this season. Fans were calling to see new attacking faces like Timo Werner but Chelsea got their first.

Now, Klopp likes young talent in his squad ranks. Liverpool have previously drawn links to Arsenal winger, Bukayo Saka but it does not look like the teenager will be moving anytime soon. But Guendouzi is open for sale after multiple clashes with head coach, Mikel Arteta and an overall disruptive attitude in the dressing room.

For some reason, Collymore thinks the Frenchman would be a good addition to this Liverpool side. The 21-year-old’s talents in midfield is undeniable starting from his composure under possession and legs to cover the pitch. That has provoked the former Reds striker to consider him as a serious candidate for both Liverpool and Manchester City.

“Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp might feel he’s not good enough for Manchester City or Liverpool, but I’d be inclined to disagree, because being around good players he could thrive,” Collymore told The Mirror. “I’m not saying he’d get into either’s first XI now. But he could play for either club, the talent is that obvious.”

Guendouzi has always been a bit rough around the edges but is he built of championship material? He is still young and with the right guidance, there is hope for the Frenchman to meet his true potential.
