Georginio Wijnaldum Addressed Contract Talks As Final Year Runs Down

Georginio Wijnaldum has not revealed any advances in contract talks with Liverpool so far.

As the January month edges closer, the midfielder is still running out his final year with the Reds.

If Liverpool fails to sign him to a new deal, they risk losing him for free next summer. Wijnaldum will even be able to open pre-contract talks with teams next month.

The 30-year-old told Liverpool Echo, “I already said in my previous interview, I don’t talk about my contract situation, I talk about the game. The club talk about my contract. There’s a connection, there was a connection from the first moment I came here, the supporters supported me a lot, but it’s not for me to talk about.”

Wijnaldum scored in the 4-0 thumping over Wolves on Sunday, curling in a spectacular effort from outside the box. He still remains a key part of Jurgen Klopp’s system at Anfield and will be difficult to replace if allowed to leave.

He said after the game, “I don’t wanna say champions performance, because we did our job, we have to do this every week. It was a good game, the position play was good and we scored good goals.”

Of course, Wijnaldum is still a huge fan favourite. He has lost no love for the club with whom he has won the Champions League, Premier League and the Club World Cup.

He added after playing in front of fans after a long time, “It was a really, really great feeling and of course to win the game 4-0. They help to improve the performance a lot because they’re cheering for you and supporting you in the game.”
