Georginio Wijnaldum believes Liverpool’s clean sheet against Bayern Munich in the Champions League round of 16 first leg could be a telling factor when the two sides will meet in Germany next month.

Both teams had their chances but couldn’t put a ball in the opponent net in the goalless draw. When it comes to performing away from home the Reds have had a tough time in the Champions League having lost all their away matches in the group stage.

Liverpool are scheduled to travel to Manchester where they will take on Manchester United in a crunch clash at the Old Trafford on Sunday. A victory in this match could prove to be vital in the title race while a defeat would hand Manchester City an unprecedented advantage.

Wijnaldum said, “We played a good first half. The second half was OK, we created chances, unfortunately we didn’t score a goal. We were not lucky with the chances. But the good thing is we didn’t concede.

“The last pass we gave was not that good. Sometimes you have those kinds of games – that you don’t score the chances you have or not give the final pass well. We have to deal with it.

“The way we are playing we have the quality to create chances [in the second leg]. That’s why I’m happy we didn’t concede.”
