Gini Wijnaldum admits Liverpool didn't want him

Gini Wijnaldum claims he was not wanted at Liverpool.

The Dutch midfielder rejected a fresh new contract at the Merseyside club because he felt he was not wanted by them.

The 30-year old was an integral part of the Liverpool side that won both the Premier League and Champions League in his time at Anfield.

He was headed to Barcelona on a free transfer but made an unexpected move to PSG in the last minute.

Wijnaldum played 38 games for the Reds last season and wanted a new challenge in his trophy-laden career.

“A few months ago, I wanted to stay at Liverpool, but without going into the details, I didn’t get the feeling they wanted to keep me”, he told L’Equipe.

“In these cases, you have to move forward. Barcelona came up.

“I was keen on the idea of signing for Barcelona. But the negotiations lasted a while and eventually PSG came forward.”
