The big Dutch defender has agreed on a new deal with Liverpool, which will keep him at Anfield until 2025.
Virgil Van Dijk has only shown improvement since his arrival. He was one of the most prominent reasons why Liverpool finished with impressive 97 points tally was last season. He won PFA Players’ Player of the Year and Premier League Player of the Season for his contributions. Liverpool then went on to win the UEFA Champions League 2018-19 and Virgil, recently won UEFA Player of the season.
So, the report of Virgil signing an extension has come as good news for fans. As reported by the Mirror, Liverpool is awarding their Main man with a new £200,000 per week contract. This is a significant raise on his previous £125,000/week wages.
Player’s representatives and the club were in negotiations for weeks and the new terms were laid out last week, which reportedly have been agreed. The club is expected to make the news official very soon.
Liverpool didn’t bring any big names this season, but they have managed to keep their strong squad intact. Tying Virgil down to a new deal that will see him stay with the Red outfits until he is 33 is a brilliant move. Liverpool will get the best years of the defenders.
Virgil, recently in an interview said, “I just want to be remembered as a fantastic player who gave everything for the team and enjoyed every bit of it.” And well, if he keeps going as he is, he’ll go down as a club legend.
