Liverpool is surely one of the biggest clubs in the world again right now.
However, that was not the case a few years back. Not according to Mamadou Sakho, at least.
The former Reds star sacrificed moves to Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Arsenal to join the Reds back in the mid-2010s.Â
Back in 2013, Sakho was the next big defender in football and Liverpool paid £18 million to land him from PSG.Â
Sakho has now gone on to reveal: ‘When I left Paris Saint-Germain, I had a number of offers from Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Arsenal and Liverpool.
‘I choose Liverpool because they were one of the clubs of my dreams with a great history. I had the chance to spend four years there in the Reds’ shirt at Anfield with a fantastic crowd.’
‘I had very good relationships with my board and I played alongside great talents like [Luis] Suarez, [Philippe] Coutinho, [Daniel] Sturridge or Steven Gerrard. I lived exceptional moments with those players.’
Sakho now plays for Crystal Palace after Klopp sold him and a career that once had so much promise is now gone. Football is indeed a funny game, who knows how it might have been had he not come to Liverpool? Maybe at Barcelona or a Bayern Munich, he would have become a world-beater today.Â
