Ian Wright declares Darwin Nunez indispensable for Liverpool

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has declared Darwin Nunez as the man who should never be substituted for the Reds, owing to his relentless threat in behind the opposition defense. Nunez, Liverpool’s No. 9, has been on a scintillating run of form, boasting 12 goal involvements in his last 13 games.

Despite failing to find the target in the recent 1-1 tie with Manchester City, Nunez’s impact has been clear, having scored in each of his previous four games.

Wright, who examined the striker’s skills on Sky Sports, highlighted Nunez’s ability to constantly make threatening runs behind the defense, making him an invaluable asset to Liverpool.

Ian Wright stated: “I’d never take him off, especially at Anfield. I would just tighten him up in those situations. I’d let him watch those videos and say ‘look at this’.

“Look what he can do. Speak to Harvey Elliott and say, ‘Harvey when you get that ball, you don’t even need to look. When you get the ball in that situation and no-one’s tight, just put it over there.’

“I used to say that to all of them. I used to say that to Dicko, to Nigel, all of the players [I played with]. John Jensen.

“Don’t even look. If it’s in there, I’m going to go. You’ll just hear me. Just put it in there.

“People know, especially at the start of the games, people know ‘jeez, he’s going to be going down there all day.’

“What happens is, you can feint there and get it to feet and you can start playing with people.”

Nunez has made a remarkable transformation in his second season at Anfield, following a somewhat disappointing debut.

With 16 goals in all competitions, he is currently Liverpool’s second-highest scorer and has clearly established himself as Jurgen Klopp’s first pick up front when available.

With Wright’s support, Nunez’s importance to Liverpool’s attacking prowess is made clear, underlining his development into a significant player for the Merseyside club as they seek silverware.
