The future of Matthijs De Ligt is a matter of big concern not only for Ajax but every big club in Europe this season.

Every big hitter is chasing the highly rated defender and whoever gets him, will know they have won not a battle but a war.

Spanish journalist, who is a well reputed source of information has said that Liverpool are in touch with De Ligt over a possible move to Anfield. He has also added that Barcelona are also in contention and the Catalans believe they have a done deal on their hands.

“They (Barcelona) think they have De Ligt, even though both Liverpool and PSG have also been talking to him.”

De Ligt for his part will have a tough choice to make although former AC Milan and Manchester United great Jaap Stam has given the youngster a piece of advice.

“It’s important that he’ll get playing time,” he told DAZN.

“If you look at the squads: Barcelona, after losing to Liverpool, probably wants to strengthen their squad, especially in defence, if you ask me.

“The question is how they are going to solve that problem.

“I think that Matthijs de Ligt would be a good fit though.

“It will be great to see how he performs against better players in a better league.

“Not just every few weeks, but every weekend.

The same goes for Liverpool.

“We all know who is their biggest defensive star – his Dutch colleague.

“The other players, (Dejan) Lovren and (Joel) Matip, rotate quite a lot.”
