Liverpool vice-captain James Milner revealed that Virgil van Dijk was the reason behind his goal celebration against Cardiff City yesterday.

After Georginio Wijnaldum put Liverpool 1-0 up, the Red s won a penalty due to a foul by Cardiff captain Sean Morrison on Mohamed Salah.

Milner stepped up to take the penalty and successfully converted to score his 7th goal of the season. After scoring the goal, Milner celebrated by doing a mimicry of an old man walking with a stick with a hunched back.

Milner revealed that the celebration had to do with Virgil van Dijk calling him old. The 32-year old said, “Virg gives me plenty of stick for being old, so it was one for him really.”

Milner was pretty pleased with his team’s performance against Cardiff City yesterday. He said, “Obviously I’ve got confidence in the boys and want them to do well.

I thought we were in control for the majority of the game, you have to stay patient. It’s easy to be impatient and start playing the wrong way.

Liverpool next take on Huddersfield Town at Anfield on Friday before playing Barcelona at Camp Nou next Wednesday.
