Liverpool vice-captain James Milner has said that he will be supporting Manchester United in tomorrow’s Manchester Derby. Liverpool are currently two points ahead of Manchester City in the league table but City have a match in hand. If both teams win their remaining games then Manchester City will win the league title.

Hence, Liverpool need Manchester City to drop points if they are to win their first league title in nearly three decades.

Given the long-standing rivalry between Liverpool and Manchester United, no Liverpool fan ever supports Manchester United. For James Milner who is also a former Manchester City player, he will always prefer to not support United.

However, given the circumstances, Milner will support Manchester United for the very first time in his life. The former England international said, “First time in my life. But I won’t be watching. It’s a bit of a waste of energy, willing the ball in the other goal.

I can’t do anything about it. I’ll maybe put my phone away for a few hours and check it after. I’ve no idea what I’ll do, maybe go out for some food”

Milner, who was playing in the match against QPR in 2012 which City had to win in the last moment to win the game, thinks that Manchester United isn’t the only challenge Manchester City will face in the title race. He said, “There’s three games left after that (United). People think United is a challenge, but it’s not the only one. It’s an old cliche, but the Premier League is tough – whoever you play, teams battling at the bottom. Go back to QPR (when Milner won the title at Man City on the final day) and it’s not easy when you’re playing to win a league title.”
