Jamie Carragher, a former member of Liverpool, has a hypothesis on why his old team decided not to hire Ruben Amorim. Portuguese coach Amorim was officially announced as Manchester United’s new head coach on Friday afternoon. “Manchester United is pleased to announce the appointment of Ruben Amorim as Head Coach of the men’s first team, subject to work visa requirements,” the club issued a statement.
Once his duties to his present club are completed, he will join until June 2027 with a one-year club option. He will start working for Manchester United on Monday, November 11. In the summer, Amorim was connected to teams like West Ham United and Liverpool before being officially announced as United’s new manager. However, both teams decided not to sign the 39-year-old, instead choosing to sign Julen Lopetegui and Arne Slot, respectively.
Jamie Carragher hints at the simple reason Liverpool turned down Ruben Amorim
In the Telegraph, Carragher stated: “I believe that Slot was chosen by Liverpool over Amorim last summer because the Dutchman likes the more conventional four at the back, making the switch simpler for the team he inherited. The first team’s style was replicated at the academy level under Jurgen Klopp to make sure those who stepped up knew the patterns of play.
Amorim has had great success in his early management career thanks to his formation and flair. Sporting’s 19-year league title drought was broken by him, and he has subsequently gained several accolades. Amorim will be leaving his position in a week, thus the Lisbon team is once again at the top of the league.
