Liverpool great, Jamie Carragher is not on board with the club’s decision to join the European Super League.
In the early hours of Monday, an official news report was released naming 6 Premier League clubs as a part of this new midweek league format.
Along with Liverpool, the two clubs from Manchester, Tottenham, Arsenal and Chelsea have all agreed to become a part of the 15 founding clubs.
Reacting to the news on Twitter, Carragher said, “What an embarrassment we’ve become @LFC think of all the people who have come before us at this club who would be equally embarrassed as well. #SuperLeague”
Of course, the news was hit heavy resistance from practically all the governing bodies across Europe – UEFA, FIFA, Premier League, Serie A, Ligue 1, etc. Fans did not react well to the news.
Carragher’s sentiments were echoed by supporters union Spirit of Shankly, who stated, “Embarrassing as fan representatives we are appalled & completely oppose this decision.
“FSG have ignored fans in their relentless & greedy pursuit of money. Football is ours not theirs. Our football club is ours not theirs. We will respond fully to this statement in due course.”
