Liverpool defender Joel Matip feels that Anfield has become a fortress for the team.

Jurgen Klopp’s team has begun the Premier League in remarkable fashion. They have won all of their six games so far. This is the first time in 40 years that Liverpool have won their first six Premier League matches.

Liverpool’s home record has been really impressive as they haven’t lost a home match at the Premier League since April 2017. They haven’t conceded at home in the Premier League since 24th February 2018.

Matip said that opposing teams will fear visiting Anfield. He said, “I think it should always be a fear to come to Anfield as an opposing team. But we are working hard to make it as uncomfortable as possible for the opponent and I think nobody enjoys to play here.”

Joel Matip started his first match for Liverpool this season after missing out due to a muscle injury he sustained during pre-season in July. He headed in Liverpool’s second of three goals against Southampton yesterday. It was his first goal of 2018.

The Cameroonian said, “After this long time, after this injury, it feels great to start again and to play. It was a nice feeling to be on the field 90 minutes. Sure, it was quite a long time with the injury but now I’m fit and I still need some time, but (I’m) looking forward to the next game.

I was not too lucky with scoring goals at Liverpool but I hope that maybe this season I can score a few more goals. It always helps the team and helps me get self-confidence for the game.”

With Chelsea drawing against West Ham today, Liverpool remain on top of the Premier League table. They are the only team who has won all their matches so far.

The Reds play Chelsea twice next week. Both teams play a Carabao Cup match at Anfield on Wednesday. Next, they play a Premier League fixture on Saturday at Stamford Bridge.
