Alexander-Arnold’s form caused the omission from the England squad.

Liverpool hero John Aldridge sends a message for Trent Alexander-Arnold after his England axe.

Aldridge wrote for the Liverpool Echo: “Gareth Southgate’s call to leave Trent Alexander-Arnold out of the England squad to face Germany is a strange one.

“I think it speaks for itself when you look at the goalscoring weakness of England in the last five games, they’ve scored once. How many games has Trent played in those last five? If you want your strikers to have more opportunities from wide areas, there is no better full-back in world football than Trent Alexander-Arnold at doing that. I understand you have to match that with defensive duties but it is impossible to be the best offensive defender and be the best at the back all in one.

“I think it is a very important time in Trent’s career at this moment. If Southgate is not giving him the chance, just prove them wrong by scoring more goals and creating more chances. He has to roll his sleeves up and say ‘I will show you all what you’re missing, Southgate.’ Whether he uses Trent in the future or if Alexander-Arnold even wants to be used remains to be seen.

“It doesn’t look great that Southgate prefers two or three other full-backs to him, but Trent has got to push that away and prove them wrong by showing how good he is for Liverpool. He needs to get back to the form of his life and silence everyone who is trying to criticise him.”

Alexander-Arnold’s form has been a concern for Liverpool and it hurt the Reds this season. Klopp’s side managed to win just two games out of six and placed at 8th.
