Former Liverpool star John Barnes feels that the PSG trio of Neymar, Edinson Cavani and Kyliian Mbappe wouldn’t have gotten into Liverpool’s team.

Liverpool play their Champions League opener against PSG today at Anfield. Neymar, Cavani and Mbappe scored a combined 60 Ligue 1 goals last season which was more than 55% of PSG total Ligue 1 goals last season. This season, the trio have scored 10 of PSG’s 17 Ligue 1 goals.

However, Barnes feels that the PSG trio would not have made it to Liverpool’s team.

He said, “You look at the whole nature of the team, rather than just saying the front three, in terms of the front three and what we like, I love the Liverpool front three. Because we play an attacking brand of football, an exciting brand of football.

A bit of a throwback to the old days of getting the ball forward quickly. If you look individually and say are any of those three better then Neymar or Mbappe, who are two of the best players in the world.

But that’s not what is important because you look at the defence and midfield and the way they play. I think individually we would cause them more problems than they would cause us.”
