Jordan Henderson was confirmed to be injured for England’s last outing.
Gareth Southgate benched the Liverpool skipper due to muscle tightness.
The Three Lions ended up losing 2-0 to Belgium with Harry Winks taking up Henderson’s spot. Southgate did not confirm the location of the injury but he said, “Jordan had a bit of tightness at half-time and felt he couldn’t carry on.
“Probably medically I would have to leave that [a diagnosis] for now but, yeah, we will just have to assess him when we get back.”
This is a huge concern for Liverpool who have already lose Joe Gomez to a serious injury. Jurgen Klopp is likely to have both of his first-choice centre-halfs out for the season. Gomez tore his patella tendon and Virigil van Dijk is nursing another serious knee issue.
If Henderson were to miss a significant period, it would a huge blow to their defensive setup. The Reds return to action against Leicester City in a week’s time. Klopp has limited options to replace Henderson.
Fabinho, who has returned from a hamstring pull only recently could be deputised at centre-half for majority of the campaign. Thiago will also have a major role in shoring up the central areas in Henderson’s absence.
