Fabio Carvalho, a summer acquisition for Liverpool, is set to go out on loan during the upcoming transfer window, according to manager Jurgen Klopp

The deal for the under-21 international from Portugal that Fulham inked last summer might potentially increase to over £7.7 million if certain add-ons are activated.

This season, Carvalho, 20, only earned eight starts across all competitions while making 21 appearances overall, making three goals but no assists. And with Klopp, the Liverpool manager, full of admiration for the youngster, predicting that Carvalho will likely be sent out next season to gain crucial experience.

In a press conference before the game on Friday, Klopp said: “I think there’s a chance that Fabio might leave on loan or anything. We’ll find out. Fabio’s career was still very young, therefore it is apparent that this was not his best year, but it very well may have been his most significant.

“To be honest, no player has impressed me more than Fabio. It was OK in the beginning but didn’t work out in the end since this kind of really brilliant youngster arrived here with huge goals and enormous expectations. His strong work ethic will help him have a successful career. He practised with no results. There is just one gift you can give a player each week: line me up, or if that doesn’t work, take me into the squad. That is my sole opportunity to please a player.

“If I don’t do that, it will depend on how the player responds, and I have never seen him respond in a row before. Unbelievable. If we keep him, we’ll see if he goes on loan or something else. Getting a lot of their business done early has been a strength for Liverpool in recent years, but Klopp has cautioned that it could not be the case this summer.
