Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has played down injury worries over star defender Virgil van Dijk. Van Dijk limped off during yesterday’s match against Southampton and was replaced by Joe Gomez.

Liverpool won the match 3-0 thanks to an own goal from Wesley Hoedt and goals from Joel Matip and Mohamed Salah. The win was Liverpool’s seventh successive win of the season. This was the first time that Liverpool began a season with seven straight wins.

After the match, reporters asked Klopp about van Dijk’s fitness. He said, “He already had a bruise in the ribs before the PSG game, which is very uncomfortable and he got another hit there. It’s not cool but should not be too serious. It should be absolutely OK, hopefully. I didn’t hear anything different.”

After six successive league wins, Liverpool will have a tough week ahead as they play Chelsea twice. Both sides have a League Cup encounter at Anfield on Wednesday before a Premier League fixture at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Chelsea play their 6th Premier League fixture today against West Ham.
