Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has hailed the club’s fans, saying that they have had a role to play in Liverpool leading the Premier League table at this point of the season.
The Reds were heavy favorites to win the Premier League before the start of the season. They began the league well and have been at the top of the table for nearly two months now.
So far, the Reds have garnered 61 points from 23 matches and are two points above reigning champions Manchester City which can go up to five provided they defeat West Ham tonight.
Jurgen Klopp said, “If I felt I had to say something to our fans I would say it immediately, but I really think they deserve all the credit in the world. So far they have been brilliant.
On Wednesday, after Tuesday and the Man City game, going 1-0 [up], I really felt outstanding support. The game and the pitch was not there for celebrating constantly. We had to play around and the ball stuck. It was not a game for people to go mad and then they score in the last minute of the first half.
I have had games like this and then it is all about what happens on the pitch. People follow what we do 100 per cent and we have to perform and the boys do that. I see a positive mood. I do not see anxiety or that they are overly nervous. They are as nervous as people are in a situation like this. It is completely fine.
I am happy with the crowd and what they did. They can do better and we can do better, but they helped us to 61 points.”
Following tonight’s match against West Ham. Liverpool play the first leg of their Champions League last 16 against Bayern Munich.
