Jurgen Klopp believes he can retire in three years time if things continue to progress as well as it has been with Liverpool.
The German ultimately overcame his curse of tournament finals by winning the Champions League trophy last season. He also led Liverpool to a second-place finish in the Premier League, only a point away from Manchester City.
He got awarded with the Sports Bild’s Manager Of The Year award. At the presentation ceremony, he said, “I hope to continue like this, but in two, three years I don’t know what may happen. Maybe I’ll retire! It doesn’t necessarily mean it will happen, however, but if that were the case, you wouldn’t be surprised.”
Liverpool have started the 2019/20 season in good form as well, collecting the maximum six points from their first two games and claiming the top spot. For a while, it seemed like the Reds could have signed back their former star Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona but the Brazilian secured a loan switch to Bayern Munich.
When asked about Coutinho, Klopp said, “He’s a super player and a super boy. We were reluctant to hand him over at the time, but Barcelona forced us with money, so to speak.
“It sounds weird, but we could not afford [to re-sign Coutinho]. He is a player who can change games for the positive. It’s not that nice for Dortmund, but it’s a great transfer for Bayern and the Bundesliga.”
