Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has admitted that Roberto Firmino is doubtful for the club’s Champions League semi-final first leg against Barcelona on Wednesday.

Klopp left Firmino out of his squad for last night’s match against Huddersfield Town due to a groin injury he sustained during training.

Before the match, Klopp said that Firmino’s injury was a minor problem but after the match, claimed that the injury could see him miss the first leg at Camp Nou.

Klopp said, “Bobby trained yesterday completely normal. It was not high intensity and I didn’t see it in training, it happened obviously in the last situation in training when he felt the muscle a little bit. Now that’s the official diagnosis, he has a small tear in a very small muscle – apart from the word ‘tear’ everything is positive.

It’s Bobby so he might be ready for Wednesday but we don’t know obviously in the moment. But because it’s him it’s more likely than not but we will see. Of all the badness you can get it’s pretty much the best but it’s still bad enough that he couldn’t play tonight.”

Liverpool’s defence marshall Virgil van Dijk sustained a knock on his foot during the game but managed to play the entirety of it. Klopp said, He would have been immediately off but he said ‘all good’.

Liverpool thrashed Huddersfield Town 5-0 and have gone up to 91 points in the league table. This is their highest league points tally ever, surpassing their 90 points in the 1987-88 season.

Liverpool’s next match is their semi-final leg against Barcelona. Provided Firmino is absent, it will be a major blow for Liverpool. In Firmino’s absence, Klopp might start Divock Origi as a left-winger while Sadio Mane could play as a center-forward.
