Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp spoke about the squad’s fitness ahead of their Champions League quarter-final second leg against Porto. Klopp said that captain Jordan Henderson is available for selection. Henderson sustained a knock against Chelsea and left the field.
Klopp said, “Hendo is all fine. We all have knocks and Hendo got a knock, but that would never take him out.”
Klopp also said that Joe Gomez is available option and Adam Lallana will be traveling with the squad. Gomez has not played a match since December but he has recovered and is a regular in training now.
About Joe Gomez’s situation, Klopp said, “Absolutely [he looks strong]. He played right full-back, we need him as this option as well. We all know he played a wonderful season at the centre-half position until his injury, but he can play both and it’s good to have him.
Adam is back in the travelling squad, we have to say. Because we have two players more, we will see what happens. Usually if nothing happens, it would be a little bit too early.”
Dejan Lovren who started in the first leg, won’t travel with Liverpool to Porto due to illness, Hence, Klopp will have to choose between Joel Matip and Joe Gomez to partner Virgil van Dijk in central defence. Matip has been doing pretty well for Liverpool so far thus Klopp will most likely prefer him at centre-back.
Liverpool will be entering the second leg with a 2-0 advantage. The last time Liverpool faced Porto at Porto, the Reds thrashed Porto 5-0 thanks to a hat-trick by Sadio Mane.
Liverpool are favorites to win tonight as well but Porto have won all of their home games in the Champions League this season. So, it won’t be easy for Liverpool to win.
Provided Liverpool win on aggregate, they will take on Barcelona in the semi-finals. Barcelona qualified by beating Manchester United 3-0 at Camp Nou last night thanks to a brace by Lionel Messi and a goal from Philippe Coutinho. Barca won 4-0 on aggregate, having previously beaten Manchester United 1-0 at Old Trafford.
