Jurgen Klopp has admitted Thiago Alcantara’s return date might be longer than expected.
Liverpool only signed the Spaniard in October for a neat £30 million.
He showcased his skills as an experienced midfielder and made an immediate impact for the Reds. Thiago’s control, distribution and vision showed fans a glimpse of what his Liverpool career might look like over the next few years.
Unfortunately, injuries have limited him to just two Premier League appearances so far and with the remaining players out, Liverpool could surely use his services right now. After the Reds drew 1-1 to Brighton, Klopp said about Thiago and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, “I don’t want to tell Ajax and Wolves too much, but I don’t think so.”
That might not be the worst news indicating that Thiago is close to his return but not quite. Clearly, it’s not a serious issue which will blight his entire season. Klopp will be hoping to get him back right as the busy winter period starts for English clubs.
The German boss has complained about fixture congestion and the denial of five changes in domestic competitions. He will have to rotate his line up as much as he can but right now his squad is really stretched thin.
