Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has said that Alisson’s calf injury could keep him out of action for a few weeks at least.
The Brazilian shot-stopper was instrumental in Liverpool’s success last season, making 27 clean sheets across all competitions. He sustained a calf injury in the Reds’ Premier League opener against Norwich City at Anfield on Friday.
Klopp already said that the 26-year old will miss tomorrow’s Super Cup against Chelsea and now, the German has confirmed that Alisson will be out for a while.
Speaking to Liverpool’s official site, Klopp said: “[It’s] Not too cool. It’s a calf injury which takes him obviously out for a while. I don’t want to make now [an] exact prognosis on when he will be back but it will not be Wednesday for sure, so now then we have to see. It takes a while, it takes a couple weeks for sure, and we have to see.
“I saw already like ‘six weeks’ and stuff like this, but Ali was not a lot injured in his career so I would like to wait a little bit to see how he develops in that process now, but he is not in for the next few weeks.”
Alisson’s absence will certainly be a huge blow for Liverpool as they have some big matches in the next 6 weeks, starting from tomorrow’s Super Cup against Chelsea. Even after the Super Cup, Liverpool play the Blues after taking on Arsenal.
However, Alisson should be fit to play against Manchester United at Old Trafford on October 19.
